You can use Photoshop to retouch a photo, but that doesn’t make it a retouching program. There is a crucial distinction between editing and retouching. These actions are usually performed by painting (using one or more layers) and often by applying filters (which are applied to all layers of a photo). To answer the question “What is Photoshop?” you first have to understand that Photoshop is a program. Not all features of Photoshop are available in all three versions. Photoshop comes in three versions: CS (Creative Suite), Elements, and Photoshop Express. However, unless you are using a Windows desktop machine, the app will likely only work on the iPad. It is a great tool for post-editing and making quick fixes. While I’m not a big fan of any software that copies features of its more robust desktop counterpart, I do think Photoshop Express has some very useful features. This app, released for iPhone and iPad, is called Photoshop Express. ![]() Adobe has released a version of Photoshop for mobile devices.
